Dordaneh — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-14
Dordaneh (دُردانه) is a free, non-profit, spare-time app of Persian nursery rhymes, built by one parent for their daughter. We collect as little as possible, on purpose. This policy explains exactly what the app and the website do — and, just as importantly, what they do not do.
The short version
- Your recordings stay on your device. Voices you record live in the app's private storage on your phone and are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- No accounts, no sign-in, no profiles. We never ask for your name, email, phone number, or any login.
- No advertising and no tracking. We use no advertising identifiers (no IDFA on iOS, no Advertising ID on Android), show no ads, and do no cross-app or cross-site tracking. The app does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission because it tracks nothing.
- The only data the app sends is anonymous error reports — and you can turn them off.
On-device recordings
When you record a family member's voice, the audio file and a small companion file describing it are saved in the app's private storage on your device. They stay there. We have no server that receives them, and the app has no feature that uploads them. If you use your phone's normal device backup (iCloud or Google), those backups are governed by Apple's or Google's policies, not ours — we never see the contents. Deleting a recording in the app, or deleting the app, removes them from the device.
Error reporting (crash reports)
To find and fix bugs, the app can send anonymous technical error reports when something goes wrong. This is the only information the app sends off your device.
- What is sent: a technical description of the error — the type of error and the program's internal stack trace, plus the app version and the kind of device and operating system. This is diagnostic data about the software, not about you.
- What is never sent: no audio, no recordings, no rhyme you were viewing, no file names, no names, no email, no advertising or device identifier, and no IP address is stored (it is dropped at the point the report is received). We do not attach any identifier that would let us recognize you across sessions, so reports cannot be linked back to a person or a device.
- It is on by default, and you can turn it off. A one-time welcome screen on first launch tells you error reporting is on. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Error reporting. Turning it off stops all reports.
- Where it goes: reports are processed by Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), our error-reporting provider, on servers in the United States.
The error-reporting tool described above (Sentry) is the only software component in the app that sends any data off your device. We ship no usage- or product-analytics SDK (such as Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics) — nothing that records which rhymes you open, how long you stay, or builds any usage profile. To gauge how many people use the app, we rely only on the anonymous, aggregate counts that Apple and Google already provide to every developer in their store consoles — we collect nothing ourselves for that.
The website (dordaneh.org)
The website uses cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics: it counts page views and rough visitor numbers without setting any cookies and without storing any identifier that singles you out. Because it sets no cookies and tracks no individuals, there is no cookie banner. The website serves the rhyme texts and audio for listening; it has no recording feature and no accounts.
Children's privacy
Dordaneh is a children's-content app made for families. By design it collects no personal information from anyone, children included: there are no accounts, the recordings never leave the device, and the only data sent (error reports) is anonymized and identifier-free. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has somehow provided us personal information, contact us and we will address it.
Data retention
- Recordings: kept on your device until you delete them; we never receive them, so we have nothing to retain.
- Error reports: retained by our provider only as long as needed to diagnose and fix bugs, then discarded under the provider's standard retention schedule. Because the reports are anonymized, they cannot be tied back to you.
- Website analytics: aggregate counts only; no individual visitor record is kept.
Your choices
- Turn error reporting off at any time in Settings → Error reporting.
- Delete any recording in the app, or delete the app, to remove on-device data.
- Because we hold no account and no data that identifies you, there is no profile to request, correct, or delete on our side. If you have any question about your data, contact us below and we will help.
International users and transfers
The operator is based in the United States, and error reports are processed in the United States. Our error-reporting provider, Sentry, is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and uses Standard Contractual Clauses as a fallback, so any transfer of data from the European Economic Area has a lawful basis. Because the error reports are anonymized before they leave the device, they are not personal data in the first place.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be reflected in the app.
