Dordaneh — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-12

Dordaneh (دُردانه) is a free, non-profit, spare-time app of Persian nursery rhymes, built by one parent for their daughter. We collect as little as possible, on purpose. This policy explains exactly what the app and the website do — and, just as importantly, what they do not do.

The short version

On-device recordings

When you record a family member's voice, the audio file and a small companion file describing it are saved in the app's private storage on your device. They stay there. We have no server that receives them, and the app has no feature that uploads them. If you use your phone's normal device backup (iCloud or Google), those backups are governed by Apple's or Google's policies, not ours — we never see the contents. Deleting a recording in the app, or deleting the app, removes them from the device.

Error reporting (crash reports)

To find and fix bugs, the app can send anonymous technical error reports when something goes wrong. This is the only information the app sends off your device.

The error-reporting tool described above (Sentry) is the only software component in the app that sends any data off your device. We ship no usage- or product-analytics SDK (such as Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics) — nothing that records which rhymes you open, how long you stay, or builds any usage profile. To gauge how many people use the app, we rely only on the anonymous, aggregate counts that Apple and Google already provide to every developer in their store consoles — we collect nothing ourselves for that.

The website (dordaneh.org)

The website's analytics are cookieless: they count page views and rough visitor numbers without setting any cookies and without storing any identifier that singles you out.

Our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare) may set one strictly necessary security cookie (cf_clearance) when it needs to confirm your browser is a real visitor and not an abusive bot. That cookie exists only to protect the site from automated abuse: it stores no advertising identifier, is not used for analytics, and does not track you across other sites. Because it is strictly necessary to serve the site securely — and we set no analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies — there is still no cookie banner.

The website serves the rhyme texts and audio for listening; it has no recording feature and no accounts.

Feedback and support

The app has a Send feedback option (in Settings), and the About screen shows a support address. Choosing it opens your own email app with a message addressed to support@dordaneh.org; we prefill only the app version and your device type so we can help, and nothing is sent until you send it. If you do write to us, your message and your email address reach us the same way any email you send does — through your own email provider — and we use them only to read and reply to your feedback. We don't add you to a mailing list, build any profile, or share your message. The app itself sends us nothing here: there is no in-app form and no server in the middle — the only data the app sends automatically is the anonymous error reports described above.

Children's privacy

Dordaneh is a children's-content app made for families. By design it collects no personal information from anyone, children included: there are no accounts, the recordings never leave the device, and the only data sent (error reports) is anonymized and identifier-free. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has somehow provided us personal information, contact us and we will address it.

Data retention

Your choices

International users and transfers

The operator is based in the United States, and error reports are processed in the United States. Our error-reporting provider, Sentry, is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and uses Standard Contractual Clauses as a fallback, so any transfer of data from the European Economic Area has a lawful basis. Because the error reports are anonymized before they leave the device, they are not personal data in the first place.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be reflected in the app.
